Robert Wheeler Wilson Professor at Harvard University and the co-director for Science at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. She teaches Astrophysics, Visualizations, and Prediction, and her research is on the interstellar medium, star formation, data visualizations, scientific computing, and scientific education.

Assistant Professor of Computer Science at MIT, where he leads the Visualization Group at MIT CSAIL. Their research uses interactive data visualization as a petri dish to study intelligence augmentation, or how do computational representations and software systems help amplify our cognition and creativity while respecting our agency?

His work has been recognized with an NSF CAREER award, best paper awards at academic venues (e.g., ACM CHI and IEEE VIS), and honorable mentions amongst practitioners (e.g., Kantar’s Information is Beautiful Awards). Systems he has helped develop are widely used in industry, on Wikipedia, and in the Jupyter/Python data science communities.

He received his PhD from the Computer Science department at Stanford University, working with Jeffrey Heer and the UW Interactive Data Lab.

Monica Ulmanu is the visual enterprise editor for the Climate & Environment Department at The Washington Post. She was part of the Post team that won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for “2C: Beyond the Limit,” a series of articles that documented the dire effects of extreme temperatures on the planet. Before joining the Post in 2018, Monica worked on the graphics desk for the Guardian (UK), Reuters, Boston Globe, and interned with The New York Times.

Matthew is a senior research staff member of Tableau Research, where he focuses on new experiences for interpersonal communication with data and information visualization.

He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of British Columbia. He also has degrees specializing in Human-Computer Interaction and Cognitive Science.

She leads the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland’s Institute for Interactive Technologies and work at the same institute as a Professor of Human-Computer Interaction, Visualization and Extended Reality, charing a research group on these topics. Also, She is a research affiliate at the Seamless Astronomy group in the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics of the Harvard University in Cambridge, USA, which specializes in scientific data analysis and visualization.

Alberto Cairo is a journalist and designer, and the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at the School of Communication of the University of Miami (UM). He is also the director of the visualization program at UM’s Center for Computational Science. He has been head of information graphics at media publications in Spain and Brazil.

The author of several textbooks, Cairo currently consults with companies and institutions like Google and the Congressional Budget Office, and has provided visualization training to the European Union, Eurostat, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Army National Guard, and many others. He lives in Miami, Florida.

A multidisciplinary engineer, researcher, creative director, artist and entrepreneur, Javier Ideami’s projects and talks have taken him from Silicon Valley to the jungles of Bali, including Stanford University and UC Berkeley, the United Nations FAO HQ, the financial center of London, the International Cultural Diplomacy Conference in Berlin and many others. Ideami’s many awards and the multidisciplinary aspect of the Torch Innovation Methodology he created, come from his a range of skills. Pere-Pau Vázquez is an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona.
He is a member of the Research Center for Visualization, Virtual Reality, and Graphics Interaction (ViRVIG). He has been working in the areas of Scientific Visualization and Computer Graphics for more than 20 years. His interests are the visualization of biomedical models, the development of novel visual analysis techniques for large data sets, the interaction in Virtual Reality environments, and the applications of Information Theory to Computer Graphics and Visualization. After graduating in Computer Science (1999), he obtained a Ph.D. in Software (2003) at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He joined Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2002 as a lecturer, and holds an associate professor position since 2006.

Dr. Alejandro Martín is Senior Lecturer at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and works in the Applied Intelligence and Data Analysis research group. His main research interests are Deep Learning, Cybersecurity, and Natural Language Processing. He has been visiting researcher at the University of Kent. Besides has participated in an important number of international conferences as a reviewer and organizer, as a reviewer and Guest Editor in international journals, and in a large number of research projects. He is the PI of three research projects focused on the fight against misinformation through the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques.

Product Designer in the Earth Sciences Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). She is part of the WMO Barcelona Dust Regional Center staff members. With more than 10 years of experience working with digital products. Her efforts have been mostly focused on User Interface Design on e-learning services in the private sector before joining the BSC. She currently designs and directs digital products while implementing Innovation and Design Thinking methodologies. Her latest work has been involved in EU-funded projects, C3S projects and public entity contracts with AEMET across the Earth System Services group at the BSC. Her fields of interest are the whole life-cycle of digital products, from the user experience research to the user testing of implemented products.

Jaume Targa is a principal air quality consultant experienced in monitoring, data reporting, data exchange, data analysis and modelling.

EC Implementing Decision 2011/850/EU: Since 2011, Jaume Targa is assisting the European Environment Agency and EIONET Air Quality community towards the adaptation of the EC Implementing Decision. Jaume has in-depth knowledge of current data exchange practises as well as an excellent understanding of the new requirements for streamlining data exchange across Europe.

The work above has been done via the European Topic Centre on Air and Climate Change Mitigation (ETC-ACM) as an expert in data sharing, reporting and streamlining of data across Europe. His initial involvement in the EEA near real time (NRT) project has assisted the setting up of near real time air quality data exchange across Europe achieving great data coverage – http://www.eea.europa.eu/themes/air/air-quality/map/real-time-map. Jaume has also managed the setting up and piloting the use of NRT O3 data for Summer Ozone Reporting. He is currently performing a review of the EEA’s NRT data exchange system.

Jaume is experienced in running meetings and workshops at both technical & non-technical level following different projects with UK DEFRA, UK Local Authorities, EEA and Spanish Regions.

Jaume is also a technical member of CEN/TC 264/WG 11 on “Diffusive samplers for the determination of gases or vapours – Requirements and test methods” which currently working on NO2 and NH3 samplers.

Mercè Crosas has spent most of her professional life at Harvard University, first as a researcher and later as the Chief Data Science & Technology Officer at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science and as the University Research Data Management Officer. From 2021 to 2022, she has been the Secretary of Open Government for the Catalan Government. Crosas is a co-author of the FAIR data principles, has participated in multiple international committees and initiatives on data sharing and open data, and has co-led the Dataverse and the OpenDP open-source projects. She holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and B.S. in Physics.

He is a visual journalist and data visualization expert. He has worked at El Mundo, The New York Times, National Geographic, and The Guardian — where he led the award-winning Visuals team. His latest interests are graphicacy, data visualization for change, and the automation of narrative visualizations.

He is an Associate Professor in the department of Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics at the University of Girona, and member of the Graphics and Imaging Laboratory (GILab). His research interests are medical imaging, image processing, visualization and information theory.
