Supporting European SMEs in bridging the digital divide

29 June: 16.30h. a 17.45h.

The GSMA’s prestigious Ministerial Programme brings together the most influential telecommunications leaders from across the world. This unique forum expands knowledge, stimulates debate around current issues and provides an opportunity to engage with mobile industry experts on policy and regulatory topics. On this occasion, Digital Future Society will organize a high-level meeting around the Support to European SMEs in reducing the digital divide.

SMEs are the backbone of the European economy. In Spain alone they represent 99.8% of Spanish businesses, an overwhelming majority being micro-firms, businesses with fewer than 10 employees. Now, and especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the pressure to digitise is on, but in order to succeed, this process of accelerated digitalisation demands a broader and more granular understanding of how digital divides take shape and where quick results can be achieved.

In this session we will discuss opportunities offered by new digital businesses models and how these can benefit specific sectors, the European Digital Single Market strategy, platform-to-business regulation, and the opportunities and challenges that will result from the decarbonization of our society.

Digital Divide and inequalities: Stories for change
