Every time we use a connected device or surf the internet, our data is collected and analysed
and, eventually, used by different companies.
From tech giants, to supermarket chains, to insurance firms- companies of all kinds are
creating and improving their products thanks to our information. Indeed, many of them
wouldn´t exist without us.
For this reason, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced earlier this year plans to
compensate consumers for the (collection and) use of their data. Its not a new idea. New York
University Professor Kenneth Laudon said consumers data is treated as “offensively cheap”.
That was in 1990.
